Mental Health
Since our founding, we have placed mental health awareness at the very heart of our group. From day one, we recognised that dance is more than movement — it’s a powerful tool for emotional wellbeing, resilience and community support. Based in Wolverhampton, Oldbury, Telford and rooted in the Black Country area, we set out to use our Bhangra fitness classes, performances, and outreach to help reduce stigma, uplift voices, and strengthen mental health in local communities.
Early on, we partnered with Black Country Mental Health to raise funds and awareness, donating proceeds from our School of Bhangra fitness classes to mental health charities. We have raised over £500 from our class proceeds. We intentionally built a family-friendly environment into every class — welcoming all ages and abilities — so that participants feel safe, supported, and free to express themselves.
Over time, our social media platforms — including Instagram and YouTube — became key channels for mental health outreach. We host conversations, share stories, post motivational content through our Jodi Dancers Talks Podcast.
Community
At Jodi Dancers, community is at the heart of everything we do. Over the years, we’ve continued to give back to our local Wolverhampton and Black Country community, whether through our affordable dance classes, priced at just £3.50, or through the many charitable initiatives we proudly support.
Our journey has taken us into schools, care homes, and community centres across the region. We’ve delivered inclusive Bhangra workshops for young people with SEND, brought joy to residents in nursing homes, supported Compton Hospice, and donated toys during the festive season to Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Sikh Toy Appeal. Each project reflects our ongoing mission to use dance as a way to uplift mental health, promote social inclusion, and spread positivity.
We are passionate about removing barriers and ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, background, or ability, has the opportunity to experience the joy of learning Bhangra. By keeping our classes accessible and rooted in community values, we continue to create safe, supportive spaces where people can move, connect, and grow both physically and mentally.
At Jodi Dancers, we believe that dance can do more than energise the body it can strengthen minds, build friendships, and nurture wellbeing across the West Midlands and beyond.
